Sustainable Building Materials

At Fortis, we believe that sustainable building practices are key to creating a bright future for both our company and our planet. That’s why we’re always looking for ways to incorporate sustainable building materials into our projects.

Some of the sustainable materials we use, to name a few, include smart glass windows, insulated concrete or steel framing, solar panels, eco-friendly insulation, heat transfer resistant interior/exterior panels, Unico HVAC systems, and smart water recycling systems.

sustainability consulting

We believe that sustainable building is not only good for the environment but also good for business. Our sustainable buildings are more energy-efficient and comfortable, which helps to attract and retain good tenants.

In addition, sustainable buildings often have a lower cost of ownership thanks to reduced energy and water consumption. We believe that sustainable building is the way of the future.

Green Energy

It’s no secret that real estate development projects that utilize green energy technology or sustainable practices are becoming increasingly attractive for both tenants and investors. According to the United Nations Environmental Programme, buildings consume 40 percent of global energy and create 30 percent of global energy-related greenhouse gas emissions; they are a big part of the climate change puzzle. This notion has led our team at Fortis to seek ways of discovering the most efficient ways to implement green energy solutions in our development projects around the globe.

On-site energy production has been shown to increase property values through the capitalization of decreased operating expenses. Furthermore, on-site energy production hedges property owners against rising electricity prices while enhancing the green reputation of the building.

“More property owners and building occupiers are realizing the benefits of renewable energy, both in terms of the cost savings it can deliver for customers and the enhanced value for investors,” says Matt Singleton, senior vice president, global energy at Prologis (NYSE: PLD).

Economic Advantages of Green Energy

  • As building codes in the U.S. are amended to require more energy-efficient glass and the use of laminated glass in place of tempered glass in high-rise buildings, architects will be driven to specify innovative systems such as EnergyGlass.
  • Since the cost of frames, mountings, and installation are the same, whether ordinary glass or EnergyGlass, the incremental cost of EnergyGlass becomes insignificant and largely offset by energy tax credits and energy cost savings.
  • In the U.S., the Federal Energy Tax Credit is available for sustainable energy components and can include the cost of the glass, the window framing system, and the complete installation.

battery Storage

Battery storage is an excellent way to increase your energy independence, provide more control over when you use electricity and reduce the cost of running electric appliances. In addition, it can help hedge against rising power bills by providing annual savings of up to 10%. Battery systems are also installed quickly without much disruption.

Waste Management

Sustainable waste management is an essential part of any green business or sustainable development effort. By definition, sustainable waste management is the process of reducing the amount of waste produced, while recycling and reusing as much of the waste material as possible. This not only helps to save resources and conserve energy, but it also reduces pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.

In order to be truly sustainable, however, waste management must also take into account the health and safety of workers, as well as the impact on local communities and ecosystems. Fortunately, there are a number of sustainable waste management solutions available that can help businesses reduce their environmental impact.

From recycling programs to green procurement policies, sustainable waste management can help your business operate in a more sustainable way.
